How to Get to Santorini from Athens (Piraeus)

Starting from Athens (Piraeus) is easy. You can take a direct flight, which lasts about 45 minutes. Or, choose a ferry for a scenic 5-hour trip. For your return, take a flight or ferry back to Athens. Both options fit any schedule and budget. Buy your ferry ticket here and get the earliest time (7:00 a.m.) and fastest ferry (5 hours).

Santorini in the Summer

Summer in Santorini will shape your Santorini itinerary. Expect hot weather and many visitors. This popular time means higher costs for hotels and activities. Always drink plenty of water and wear sun protection. Start your mornings early to beat the crowds. Booking your accommodations and activities early helps you avoid the rush and find better deals. Santorini’s lively nightlife and stunning sunsets make summer visits worthwhile despite the heat.

How to Get Around Santorini

Getting around Santorini is easy. However, though frequent, buses can be late due to island traffic. Buses are the main public transport, linking major spots across the island. The central bus station in Fira connects to various places, offering frequent services. Buses are cheap and dependable, great for those on a budget. For more freedom, consider renting a car, scooter, or ATV. These options let you explore Santorini at your own pace.

Where to Stay in Santorini

Choosing where to stay is vital to a great Santorini itinerary. For budget travelers, Fira Backpackers Place offers a lively setting. Mid-range seekers should look at Hotel Atlantis in Fira. It boasts excellent pool views. In Oia, try the Santolia Art Suites. Both hotels offer great amenities and are close to attractions.

Day 2: Catamaran Cruise and Oia Exploration

This day combines relaxation on the Aegean Sea with exploring Oia. My friend and I booked a 5-hour Catamaran Island/Beaches Tour. There’s also a wine tasting tour in Santorini – if that’s your thing.

Morning: Start early and go to the catamaran’s departure point. Sail around 10 a.m. The cruise offers fantastic sea views and stops at hot springs. Enjoy a meal of fresh Greek salad, seafood, and local wine. The 5-hour trip allows plenty of time for sunbathing and sightseeing.

Afternoon: Once back on land, head to Oia. Walk down its marble streets and admire the white houses and blue-domed churches. Stop for Greek coffee and pastries. Visit the Maritime Museum and local art galleries. End the day watching a spectacular sunset.
